Richmond Cares Week #4: Be a Good Friend
May 25-29, 2020

Congratulations! You have made it to the fourth and FINAL week of Richmond Cares! You are such a caring person and by now you have helped teachers, essential workers and senior citizens. Now it is time to care for someone your own size – OTHER KIDS! Kids all over the WORLD are sheltering at home just like you. Even if you enjoy sheltering at home with your family, you may still miss playing with your friends and neighbors. Here are some fun ideas to interact with them (from a distance):

Chalk Games

It’s supposed to be a dry week, which means it’s the perfect week for chalk games! Let’s get creative and draw some things on the sidewalk for your neighborhood kids to enjoy. Here are some ideas:

Other ideas include:

  • Hopscotch
  • Bullseye target
  • Chalk maze

Chalk Message

Another idea involving chalk is to write a message on your friend/neighbor’s sidewalk. It can say, “I miss you!” or “I hope to see you soon!” or “The person who lives here is awesome!” Be creative and leave your friend a message that will cheer them up when they see it.

***While it is okay to sign your name, please refrain from writing the name of the people who live in the house on the sidewalk. That way, we respect their privacy and they’ll know it’s for them, because it’s their sidewalk.

Have fun and spread some chalk joy in your neighborhood! If you don’t have any chalk at your home (or any sidewalk) feel free to write your friends/neighbors a letter or send them some paper games (think word search, maze, crossword) or even a letter written in a secret code (just don’t forget to give them the key to solve it). The possibilities are endless!
