Night of Action for Statewide School Funding

Richmond PTA Presents:

Night of Action for Statewide School Funding @ Richmond Elementary School

Thursday, April 25th 6:15 – 8:00 PM

Please join the PTA on Thursday, April 25th for a family-friendly, community-wide evening of information, advocacy and next steps to address the perennial school-funding crisis. This is not a fundraising event! This is an opportunity to advocate for a permanent fix to our school funding crisis. You’ll learn why advocating for state-wide improvements to school funding now is so important and how you and your family can participate. We’ll have speakers on hand to talk about the legislative process, opportunities for Q&A, supplies for writing postcards to your legislators, making signs, etc. All students are invited to participate and many activities have been created with the whole family in mind, but we will also have childcare available for the younger set. Come early for snacks and to meet other concerned families from neighboring schools. Invited participants include: Rep. Rob Nosse, Sen. Kathleen Taylor, Oregon PTA, Families4ORSchools, Our Oregon, and more.

It’s time to support our teachers and fully fund Oregon’s schools!

Decades of chronic underfunding have taken their toll and created a crisis for Oregon students. Educators are overloaded, students are falling through the cracks, building maintenance backlogs are out-of-hand, and our districts don’t have the resources they need. We know our students deserve better. We know our educators deserve better. Oregon deserves better. But we need your help!

What can you do?

Join the movement for school funding! It may be a long-haul but together we can work to ensure that all children in Oregon, regardless of background or zip code, have the chance they deserve to learn and succeed.

  • Attend our Night of Action for Statewide School Funding on April 25 at Richmond Elementary School to learn more, ask questions, write your legislators, make posters, and more.
  • Join thousands of Oregon educators to Take Action on May 8th and send the message that it’s time to fix the funding shortage in our schools. All PPS schools will be closed on May 8th (with a few exceptions for Outdoor School, etc.). Details are still being worked out but rallies are planned across the state. In Portland: 11 am Rally and March @ Tom McCall Waterfront Park. For more information, please visit: https://www.may8forstudents.org
  • Join the Families for Oregon Schools Facebook group. Created by concerned parents for sharing updates on legislative funding proposals, actions families can take, and other information about advocating for adequate funding for Oregon Schools. For more information please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Families4ORschools/

The bottom line?
It’s time to fully fund Oregon’s Schools. For our students, for our educators, and for our state.
